Ram 2500 vs Ram 3500: Power & Performance

Ram 2500 The Ram 2500 comes equipped with an impressive 6.4L HEMI® V8 engine that’s been coupled with an 8HP75 8-speed automatic transmission. The 8H75 transmission allows for full electronic operation and on-the-fly shift mapping.

The Ram 3500 comes standard with a 6.4L HEMI® V8 engine. As it also utilizes variable-cam timing, it can generate a similar best-in-class 410 horsepower. When paired with the 8-speed automatic transmission, it provides a level of refinement not often seen in heavy-duty trucks. Additionally, it boasts 429 lb-ft of torque, which is fine for the kinds of towing you’ll be doing.

Ram 2500 vs Ram 3500: Towing Capability

At this level of heavy duty, having a strong towing capacity is important. Since these trucks are great for work, heavy lifting is the name of the game. The Ram 2500 has a towing capacity of 17,540 pounds, while the Ram 3500 has a towing capacity of 18,210 pounds with their standard engines. Of course, this doesn’t take into account the many optional engines at play.

The 2500 has access to the available 6.7L Cummins® Turbo Diesel I6 engine that offers up a max towing capacity of 20,000 pounds. When we look at the 3500, it has a clear advantage with its access to more engines than the 2500. When the 3500 equips the 6.7L High-Output Cummins® Turbo Diesel I6, it reaches a maximum towing capacity of 37,090 pounds. Whereas the 2500 attains 20,000 pounds with the basic Cummins® engine, the 3500 achieves 22,670 pounds.

Ram 3500 When it comes to infotainment, both the 2500 and the 3500 have much in common. Both models enable you to remain online thanks to the inclusion of the available Uconnect® 5C system. Through the use of a responsive touchscreen, you can manage up to five unique user profiles along with a home screen that’s just as customizable. You can also expect towing-specific navigation that’s perfect for the work you’ll be doing behind the wheel of either of these trucks.
